Comments By Rob & Barb
Sue, The cruise was very nice, we had a great time. The travel to and from Toronto and New York was nothing short of a nightmare. We were not pleased with the flight on Sat morning being cancelled, but there is nothing one can do with the weather. Our disappointment was around the service or the lack thereof. We were concerned with the possibility of the 9:30 flight on Sat morning not going and thus missing our cruise departure from NYC. It was because of this we took the bus on Friday night, arriving in NYC 11.5 hours later. We tried to call United, but they did not answer the 1-800 number at all...and we tried several time between arriving in NYC at 07:00am on Sat and getting onto the ship at 1:00pm Sat. I called and left messages for you on three separate occasions, when we had boarded the bus Friday night in downtown Toronto, when we arrived in NYC and when we were on the ship. All messages were to convey that we were not on the 0930 flight from Toronto to NYC and requesting you notify United Airlines. The last message at 1:20pm on Sat from the ship was a request you advise United we did have every intention of flying from NYC to Boston to Toronto on 15 Mar after our cruise returned. the fact that these messages were not answered was the cause of concern and rightfully so as nothing was done. How do I know? The reality hit home when we arrived at La Guardia Airport on 15 Sat to fly home. Imagine the horror to find out that we could get to Boston with some work, but once in Boston our tickets to Toronto were "revoked", not cancelled, but "revoked". The only explanation we received was it was due to not being on the flight from Toronto to NYC. To our way of thinking this is why we book through travel agents, to have these things handled. They clearly were not handled and from the looks of things, not even addressed. We did manage to get home, but solely thorugh the efforts of two wonderfully helpful US Airways ticket agents at La Guardia Airport. As for the other partywe travelled with, they got home, to Markham, from NYC very easily. In fact they managed to get home hours earlier due to an earlier flight and were at home, while we were still in Logan Airport in Boston. They flew Air Canada, a partner to United (which we were scheduled on), but because we were on US Airways (a partner to United) we were in Boston. Not the way to return from a great vacation. It certainly puts a very black cloud over a very sunny, enjoyable trip. Rob, Barb & Megan Pepin
