The Maasdam is a smaller older vessel, perfect for the guests who do not demand the glitz and glamour and the newness of the larger newer ships. Average age of passengers had to be at least 65. The menus were not as varied as other cruise lines we have previously travelled on, the evening entertainment was mediocre, the stateroom was fine, except the bathroom requires an overhaul. Various unwelcome odours were noticeable below decks. Public restrooms were few and far between,and often out of order.The library and internet room were the best public areas, bright and inviting, the atrium was dark and dated. Room service was always on time and correct, the room/dining stewards mainly Indonesian were tireless in their efforts. Wine and Specialty drink cards are available prior to sailing, and they worked very well...Liquors, wine and beer are also available delivered on your arrival. The itinerary was the only reason we choose the Maasdam and we were not disappointed with the Canada/NE scenery.To us, this cruise rated a C ..but we will give another Holland America ship a chance in the future.
